The Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO) is seeking a curious and outgoing researcher with a keen attention to detail, to join the staff team as Research & Soil Health Program Coordinator. For over 40 years, EFAO has helped farmers build resilient ecological farms and grow a strong knowledge sharing community through farmer-led education, research and community building. Momentum and support is growing for ecological and regenerative agriculture, and this new position with EFAO is critical for increasing the capacity and scope of support EFAO provides to farmers for farmer-led research and soil health.

Position Details

Position: Research & Soil Health Program Coordinator

Location: Guelph, Ontario or option to work remotely from home office

Employment type: 30 hours/week 

Start date: April 30, 2021 (flexible)

Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension

Salary:$36,000 – $44,000/year, depending on qualifications and experience

Responsibilities include

  • With EFAO’s Research Director, support EFAO’s Farmer-Led Research Program with the development of research protocols, data handling and analysis, report generation
  • With EFAO’s Administrative Manager, support program administration for EFAO’s Farmer-Led Research Program
  • With EFAO’s Research Director and Education Director, plan the ongoing development and implementation of a soil health advisory service to complement EFAO’s existing farmer-to-farmer Advisory Service
  • Conduct soil analysis and report generation as part of EFAO’s Advisory Service
  • With EFAO’s Research Director, plan the ongoing development and implementation of EFAO’s Soil Health Benchmark Program
  • Recruit and train farmers as part of EFAO’s Soil Health Benchmark Program
  • Conduct data analysis and report generation as part of EFAO’s Soil Health Benchmark Program
  • Track grant deliverables and progress, and prepare summaries for grant reports
  • Coordinate with EFAO’s Communications Manager to develop and curate relevant and timely soil health content
  • Communicate about EFAO’s work and mission to varied audiences via written media and presentations, and author articles for EFAO’s quarterly publication and blog
  • Support and collaborate with team members in a manner that promotes cross-program partnerships and team cohesion

 

Requirements include

  • Undergraduate degree or Masters degree in agriculture, soil science, agroecology or related program; or a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a relevant field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience in data analysis, data handling and data presentation
  • Proficiency in data management using spreadsheet software (e.g. Excel, Numbers, etc.)
  • Proficiency in statistical software, preferably R
  • Proficiency in data presentation (e.g. graph generation)
  • Creative problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage several tasks at once
  • Experience working in a not for profit environment is an asset
  • Knowledge of database management is an asset (e.g. Airtable)
  • Knowledge of publishing website content in Wordpress is an asset
  • Some off-site and weekend work
  • Valid driver’s license
