Join the team from the Urban Farm at TMU for an afternoon visiting the two rooftop farms on campus; the ecological market garden and flower farm atop the George Vari Engineering building (ENG) and the newest rooftop farm atop the Daphne Cockwell Health Sciences Complex (DCC), which is dedicated to the growing spaces of the Black Food Sovereignty Initiative and the Indigenous Foodways program.

During this tour, guests will learn about the farm’s history, operations, ecological best practices, emerging research in rooftop farming, green roof technology, and the food justice initiatives.

Agenda

The day will start at 2:30pm at the ENG rooftop farm, followed by a tour of the DCC space and end with a small social gathering with some freshly harvested snacks and refreshments.

Preparation

Please come dressed weather-appropriate, wearing closed-toe shoes, sun or rain protection and a reusable water bottle. NOTE: It is important that you arrive 5 – 10 minutes early before the tour starts, as the building is not accessible to the public and the rooftop spaces are locked.

Accessibility information

Washrooms available, elevator access to both spaces. Please let us know if you require the elevator; accessible entrance to both buildings; rooftop on ENG is locked but has an accessible ramp to the rooftop
