Joining the EFAO Board of Directors

The Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO) Board of Directors helps oversee and guide the organization. We envision an Ontario where thriving ecological farms are the foundation of our food system, and where agriculture protects our resources, increases biodiversity, mitigates climate change, and cultivates resilient, diverse, equitable communities.

Are you passionate about ecological farming and farmer training? Farmer-led research and knowledge sharing?

Are you interested in advancing anti-racism, equity and belonging in ecological agriculture?

Do you have skills, experience, or perspective to support the governance of a charitable organization?

Established in 1979 by farmers for farmers, EFAO is a membership organization that focuses on farmer-led education, research and community building. EFAO’s mission is to support farmers to build resilient ecological farms and grow a strong knowledge-sharing community.

We are seeking board members that reflect the diversity within EFAO’s membership and the communities we aim to serve. Since 2020 EFAO has been working to advance anti-racism, equity and belonging in our programs, activities, and governance. Real representation for equity-deserving groups within the organization is fundamental to achieving these goals.

As we work to implement our strategic plan, we would welcome applicants with experience or expertise in the following areas:

  • Urban agriculture
  • Conventional field crops (especially small grains)
  • Farmer-led research
  • New and beginning farmers
  • Farming in eastern Ontario
  • Policy development and advocacy work
  • Organizational change management
  • Fundraising
