Term 1: Ignatius New Farmer Training Program

The Ignatius New Farmer Training Program is a collaboration between the Ignatius Jesuit Centre, EFAO, Everdale and the National Farmers Union Ontario.
Educational content is geared toward new farmers, but is open to all farmers who might be curious about a certain topic, wishing to expand their farming knowledge, or in need of a refresh.
Important Information About the 2022 Ignatius Farm New Farmer Training Program:
The 2022 Ignatius Farm New Farmer Training Program is FREE for everyone! This program is a project of Employment Ontario and is funded in part by the Canadian Government and the Ontario Government.
All course resources and recordings will only be available on the Moodle Course Platform. Instructions on how to set up a Moodle account will be sent to participants upon registration.
Term 1: Establishing a foundation of knowledge and language for beginning farm work
*Register for the whole term or choose individual events.
**All events are recorded to allow participants to watch on their own time. Recordings will be made available on the course platform (Moodle) within 48 hours of the event.
April 19:
Full term participants meet up: 7:00pm – 8:00pm, on Zoom.
April 20:
Introduction to Organic Growing: 9:30am – 11:00 am
Botany for Farmers and Gardeners: 2:30pm – 4:00pm
April 22:
The Language of Ecological Agriculture Part 1: 9:30am – 11:00am
The Language of Ecological Agriculture Part 2: 2:30pm – 4:00pm
April 25:
Identifying and Controlling Pests and Disease: 9:30am – 11:00am
Farm Workers Rights and Responsibilities: 2:30pm – 4:00pm
April 27th:
Soil Health: 9:30am – 11:00am
Intro to Indoor Growing: 2:30pm – 4:00pm
Full term participant debrief meet up: 7:00pm – 8:00pm, on Zoom.
