"The ability to see our lives as stories and share those stories with others is at the core of what it means to be human"- John Capecci.

As farmers, our stories help connect with consumers and demonstrate to media, policy makers and the agricultural community the benefits of ecological farming. But, stories aren’t magic unless they are strategic. Join us for a 2-part webinar series with John Capecci, co-founder of Living Proof Advocacy and co-author of Living Proof: Telling Your Story to Make a Difference, to bring clarity, confidence and impact to your storytelling.

This webinar series will arm you with the essential skills needed to utilize your personal story for advocacy and effective communication. The first webinar will offer storytelling and advocacy fundamentals with a follow-up assignment for participants. The second webinar will offer participants an opportunity to share their progress, learn by listening and give and receive feedback.

The first 5 participants to enroll will receive a free e-book version of  Living Proof:  Telling Your Story to Make a Difference. All participants will receive a discounted rate on the eBooks of $13CA, downloadable using a coupon code.

The Zoom link will be sent out to registrants before each webinar. Click here to check your computer's compatibility.

Taking soil tests both for nutrients and biology are important management techniques so that organic farmers can increase yields, improve crop quality, reduce weed problems and improve soil health. This workshop will show you how to take a soil sample, where to send it and help you understand the results when you get them back. You will leave with an understanding of what your nutrient and biological goals should be. We will also consider what amendments and/or cover crops you might use to correct deficiencies you find. Workshop will be useful for growers of all sizes.  Feel free to bring along your own soil tests to follow along with Ken.

Facilitator: Ken Laing, Orchard Hill Farm

Ken Laing and his wife Martha started farming in 1979. They operated a pick-your-own fruit operation, grew organic field crops and Christmas trees, and then started a CSA, Orchard Hill Farm, which has just completed its 19th season. Most of the farm work has been done with draft horses. Growing up on a farm with poor drainage, impervious clay subsoil, thin soils over gravel deposits and unimproved pasture 20-30 years into succession back to forest has heightened Ken’s awareness of soil related issues. Thirty-six years of farming has added immeasurably to Ken’s experience of understanding, managing and learning how to improve soils.
