The Northeast Committee of the EFAO is hosting the 2018 Seedling Swap & Sale at the Sudbury Gardening Festival. This event will bring together local farmers, gardeners and green thumbs! Northeast Committee members are donating their extra seedlings to be purchased by home gardeners or swapped for an equal number of seedlings of a different variety.
All proceeds raised by the Seedling Swap and Sale will go towards supporting the ongoing work of the EFAO.

Field Day: Sprouts, Seedlings & Indoor Growing

Meet at the Farm Workshop (small grey building) for this Field Day all about indoor growing! See Ignatius Farm's covered growing structures, including their heated glass greenhouse and their new hoop house, and learn how each one is used.

10-12:30- Introduction to Microgreens and Sprouting Workshop. A beginner workshop discussing microgreens and sprouts, different ways to grow them and how we do them at Ignatius Farm!

12:30- 2- Potluck and Social Time

2-4pm- Field Tour with a focus on Ignatius Farms Indoor Growing Spaces (hoophouse, heated seedling greenhouse, & cold frame)

 

Participants are able to participate in a half or whole day experience.

Bring a potluck dish to share with the group.

Join Tarrah Young of Green Being Farm as she shares lessons from a decade of raising heritage pigs on pasture, as well as innovative and valuable information gleaned from research abroad. Bring your lunch for this full-day workshop.

Topics to be covered include:

  • feeding and grazing options
  • natural health care
  • breed selection
  • processing
  • marketing and economics

Plus, get a chance to learn about her KuneKune pigs, a small, rare breed of pig able to fatten on forages alone – the true enviro-pig!

Workshop will conclude with a pig butchering demonstration.

Join EFAO and Ignatius Farm for a Farmer Health Day and Gardener Gathering! This one-day workshop retreat features group relaxation and healing sessions, as well as one-on-one therapy sessions, including yoga, meditation, ergonomics, naturopathy, massage therapy, acupuncture, and more! Rest, get centered, and learn the skills and techniques you need to feel better in the fields! Farmers, farm interns, farm employees, community gardeners, and home gardeners are all welcome. The goals of the day are to:

  • Enjoy a relaxing day together
  • Gain new skills in the art of life-balance and self-care with the help of experienced wellness practitioners
  • Find support and community with other ecological growers
  • Stretch and care for our bodies
  • Take a moment of rest during a busy time of year to appreciate our bodies, hearts, and minds for all their hard work

Bring a potluck dish for lunch, comfortable clothing for moving in, water, a yoga mat, and cash for one-one-one sessions (if you plan to partake).
