SUMMARY:Farming in Northeastern Ontario at Field Good Farms
DESCRIPTION:Ryan and Isabelle of Field Good Farms in Northeastern Ontario have spent the last 10 years figuring out the infrastructure and set-up that works best for their farm\, which provides CSA shares from June until December and wholesale vegetables year round. Take advantage of their years of experimentation\, cost analysis and tweaks and find out what makes the most sense for their farm business and why. Participants will be sent (in advance) a pre-recorded video farm tour of their greenhouses and tunnels\, major farm tools\, seeding and transplanting procedures\, no-till practices and packhouse set up. Then on May 27th at 1:30pm\, there will be an opportunity for participants to join in a live discussion and ask questions of Ryan and Isabelle about their farm operations. \nThis webinar is offered as part of the Ignatius Farm New Farmer Training Program. SUMMARY:Eat Local Grey Bruce: Lessons from Growth during COVID-19
DESCRIPTION:The collaborative marketing initiative Eat Local Grey Bruce is sharing lessons how they deal with rapid growth during these times of COVID-19. Eat Local is an online farmers market that sells food online to consumers\, then aggregates orders to their warehouse where they pack individual orders and deliver to houses and pickup locations. Eat Local is a not-for-profit cooperative with a broad vision of an ecological food system and a mission to build a community that supports farmers and consumers\, and regenerates the environment.\n\nThe webinar first summarizes the onset and evolution of the cooperative since its inception in 2016. Then\, we present how the crisis has boosted an unprecedented growth that came with many challenges and also new opportunities. Aspects include operational strategies for a two-fold increase in sales volume\, strategies to expand warehousing capacity within given infrastructure\, staff training and management\, and a shift to strict but pragmatic epidemiological food handling practices. The webinar is hosted by Thorsten Arnold\, instigator and designer of the coop\, and Jeannine Kralt\, current manager.\n

Join other new farmers in your region to ask your most pressing questions of a seasoned farmer who’s been there.  Discussion will focus on things to consider before starting a farm business.  Use this Q&A event as an opportunity to kick-start your business planning that will help ensure success through the first few years of operation.  Save time\, money\, and frustration by getting tips from experienced farmers.  Bring along your burning questions or farm business ideas plus a dish for the potluck! \n  \nRyan and Isabelle have been growing and selling organic produce at Field Good Farms/Ferme j’me champs bien since 2011. They run a 95 member vegetable CSA\, and also offer online vegetable orders through Click Fork Online Farmer’s Market. They have been incorporating regenerative agriculture techniques including no-till and carbon sequestration into their production model for the past two seasons in an effort to find a balance between farm viability and ecological restoration. \n  \nThis event is hosted in partnership with the National Farmers Union Ontario North Local 333.
