DESCRIPTION:Join us for tours of two diversified organic farms employing regenerative practices in Ontario.  Each virtual tour will give you an inside look at their farm operations and highlight their farm’s regenerative practices then both farms will join the live event to answer all of your questions. \nManorun Organic Farm is a family run farm set on the edge of the Niagara escarpment near Dundas. Along with their four children and farm team\, Chris Krucker and Denise Trigatti have been farming organically for 20 years and offer organic vegetables through a CSA. The farm is 25 acres in total and includes vegetables\, herbs\, pasture raised livestock\, grain and hay.  \nLocated on 60 acres of loamy soil covered in perennial hayfields\, pastures\, annual crops and trees in Walter’s Falls\, Sideroad Farm produces Certified Organic vegetables\, cut flowers and pasture-raised chickens and eggs.  Amy and Patrick Kitchen\, along with their two children and team\, sell their farm products all year long through a CSA\, an on-farm store\, farmers markets\, and local retailers and restaurants\, including Eat Local Grey Bruce. \nThis event is offered in partnership with the Organic Council of Ontario and with support from the Canadian Organic Growers as part of the Fall Field Day Series.

DESCRIPTION:Join Rebecca Ivanoff\, EFAO Seed Program Manager\, for this informal discussion. \nRebecca holds a M.S. in Anthropology and International Development from the University of Guelph and in 2013\, she joined Whole Circle Farm as a CRAFT intern\, and stayed on as staff to co-manage the 10-acre CSA and reintroduce seed production to the farm. During this time she also started the Southern Ontario Pepper Breeding Project with three other farmers in southern Ontario\, with support from plant breeders at Cornell University and in cooperation with EFAO’s Farmer-Led Research Program. Now as EFAO’s Seed Program Manager she supports farmers to learn about regional seed production\, and to implement participatory variety trials and plant breeding projects as part of The Bauta Family Initiative on Canadian Seed Security and EFAO’s Farmer-Led Research Program.  Bring your questions and ideas to this conversation! \nThis event is designed as a discussion space for new farmers but open to all EFAO members and those who are registered for Term 2 of the Ignatius New Farmer Training Program.

SUMMARY:Organic Mixed Farming in the North at Sleepy G Farm
DESCRIPTION:Since 2010\, Brendan and Marcelle have been operating Sleepy G Farm in Pass Lake\, ON\, 45km east of Thunder Bay. They grow 8 acres of Certified Organic vegetables and distribute through a 200-member CSA program in addition to wholesaling to grocery stores.  Sleepy G Farm also produces eggs and beef as a complement to nearly year-round vegetables sales that are made possible by an on-farm winter vegetable storage facility. Get a behind-the-scenes look at how they have turned a 171 acre abandoned dairy farm in northwestern Ontario into a thriving\, diversified farm business and the infrastructure they’ve put in place to support their operations. \nParticipants will be sent (in advance) a pre-recorded video farm tour\, then on June 24th at 1:30pm\, there will be an opportunity for participants to join in a live discussion and ask questions of Brendan and Marcelle about their farm operations. \nThis event is offered as part of the Ignatius Farm New Farmer Training Program.
