Find out how each farm manages fencing\, feeding\, sheltering\, watering\, and moving animals – with a focus on soil health and regeneration. Participants will watch a pre-recorded video tour of each farm’s operations ahead of time\, and then gather virtually for a Q&A panel discussion on Zoom.\n\nKipling Ridge Farms is located between Sudbury and North Bay\, and is run by James and Josee Morin and their 4 children. They breed and raise Kune Kune and Large Black pigs along with a small herd of cattle\, meat chickens and turkeys – all on a pasture-based\, multi-species rotational grazing system rooted in the principles of regenerative agriculture.\n\nCorbett Creek Farm & Creative Centre is located near Thunder Bay\, and operated by Jonathan Hollway and Aly Wood. They raise heritage breeds of pastured pigs\, whose diet is supplemented with leftover whey from Thunder Oak Cheese Farm and spent brewery grains\, as well as grass-finished beef.

Fall and Summer leaf lettuces are being trialed across Ontario this year through the Farmer-Led Research Program\, and gardeners\, farmers and seed savers across Canada are growing lettuce seed for Seeds of Diversity Canada’s Seed Library. The diverse plants that make up the lettuce crop family present lots of challenges and rewards\, especially when it comes to growing lettuce in the summer heat\, and when saving and cleaning those tiny\, light-as-air seeds. SUMMARY:Measuring Regeneration with Ecological Indicators
DESCRIPTION:Regeneration of the most effective possible ecosystem has many possible paths. Determining if a farm is making decisions that are leading to regeneration can be very complex. The holistic manager will recognize indicators that tell them if their actions are leading to more effective or less effective states ahead of the time where current science can actually measure the outcome of those actions.   \nOn this field day Cory Van Groningen will tour with John Rowe on his farm as they discuss the actions that John took recently.  Together\, they will look for and discuss indications that these actions are leading towards or away from more effective ecological outcomes.  Then participants can join a Q&A session with John\, Cory and Dana Penrice.   \nJohn Rowe founded Rowe Farms in 1972\, which has grown to 5 retail shops located in Guelph and Toronto and a loyal Ontario following of their products.  Cory is an Accredited Professional in Holistic Management through the Savory Institute and the farming brother at VG Meats.  Dana is the Coordinator with Holistic Management Canada and an Accredited Professional with the Savory Institute. \nThis event is offered in partnership with the Organic Council of Ontario and with support from the Canadian Organic Growers as part of the Fall Field Day Series. \n

DESCRIPTION:Based in Clarington\, Ontario\, the Green Circle Food Hub was formed by farmers in the early spring at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kendal Hills Farm had the facilities to serve as the collection point for food\, so they\, in collaboration with other local farms\, coordinated the distribution of farm products directly to consumers. Participants will receive a pre-recorded tour of Kendal Hills Farm and an inside look at the founding and daily operations of Green Circle Food Hub. SUMMARY:Regenerative Practices with Valleyfield Farm
DESCRIPTION:Valleyfield Farm is a small farm with a big commitment to regenerative agriculture.  Since 2009\, Martti and Melanie Lemieux have been planting\, growing\, harvesting\, grazing\, and raising flavour-rich\, nutrient-dense greens and grass-fed\, pasture-raised meats and eggs for the families of Algoma. In this tour\, Martti and Melanie share how the farm’s rotational grazing\, diversity and infrastructure has evolved over the years to optimize overall performance. Part of the tour features a recent investment in high tunnel irrigation to expand the gardens and perennial fruit orchard. \n\nParticipants will be sent (in advance) a pre-recorded video tour of Valleyfield Farm\, and then gather on October 19th for a live Q&A discussion with Martti and Melanie on Zoom.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for tours of two diversified organic farms employing regenerative practices in Ontario.  Each virtual tour will give you an inside look at their farm operations and highlight their farm’s regenerative practices then both farms will join the live event to answer all of your questions. \nManorun Organic Farm is a family run farm set on the edge of the Niagara escarpment near Dundas. Along with their four children and farm team\, Chris Krucker and Denise Trigatti have been farming organically for 20 years and offer organic vegetables through a CSA. The farm is 25 acres in total and includes vegetables\, herbs\, pasture raised livestock\, grain and hay.  \nLocated on 60 acres of loamy soil covered in perennial hayfields\, pastures\, annual crops and trees in Walter’s Falls\, Sideroad Farm produces Certified Organic vegetables\, cut flowers and pasture-raised chickens and eggs.  Amy and Patrick Kitchen\, along with their two children and team\, sell their farm products all year long through a CSA\, an on-farm store\, farmers markets\, and local retailers and restaurants\, including Eat Local Grey Bruce. \nThis event is offered in partnership with the Organic Council of Ontario and with support from the Canadian Organic Growers as part of the Fall Field Day Series.
