The French version follows the English version. \nIn Part 2 of the Northern Climate Solutions Webinar Series\, Brendan from Sleepy G Farm in Pass Lake\, Kevin from Belluz Farms in Slate River Valley\, and Ryan from Field Good Farms in Cache Bay will speak about how they manage water for their market gardens\, how their systems fared during the 2021 drought\, and what strategies they plan to implement to help their gardens weather future droughts. \n  \nSpeakers: \n  \nBrendan Grant\, Sleepy G Farm \nSince 2010\, Brendan and Marcelle have been operating Sleepy G Farm in Pass Lake\, ON\, 45km east of Thunder Bay. They grow 8 acres of Certified Organic vegetables and distribute through a 200-member CSA program in addition to wholesaling to grocery stores.  Sleepy G Farm also produces eggs and beef as a complement to nearly year-round vegetable sales that are made possible by an on-farm winter vegetable storage facility. \n  \nKevin Belluz\, Belluz Farms \nKevin and Jodi are 3rd generation farmers growing fruits and vegetables in the Slate River Valley near Thunder Bay. They offer seasonal pick-your-own produce\, a farm store and Harvest Cafe\, and also manage Superior Seasons\, an online farmers market that offers home delivery to Thunder Bay. \nRyan Spence\, Field Good Farms \nRyan and Isabelle own and operate Field Good Farms/Ferme j’me champ bien in Cache Bay\, between Sudbury and North Bay. They run a four-season CSA with 35 to 95 shareholders and also sell direct market and wholesale vegetables\, fruits and teas. Karen Klassen (Faspa Farm)\, from the Manitoba Organic Alliance and member of Farmers for Climate Solutions\, will start the night off with highlights from Farmers for Climate Solutions’ recently released recommendations on the 4 strategic priorities that should guide the development of Canada’s next Agricultural Policy Framework. Karen will also share how she is implementing climate-friendly practices on her family farm in southern Manitoba\, where she grows a variety of grains and green manure on both conventionally and certified organic acres. \n  \nAbout the Speakers: \n  \nKaren Klassen\, Faspa Farm and Manitoba Organic Alliance: \nKaren Klassen is the Program Manager for the Manitoba Organic Alliance\, a member of Farmers for Climate Solutions\, and farms with her father at Faspa Farm near Manitou\, Manitoba. This includes the following sessions: \n Webinar: Weed Management for Small Grains in Organic and Conventional Systems with Dr. Joel Gruver \nDr. Joel Gruver is an Associate Professor of Soil Science in the School of Agriculture at Western Illinois University. In addition to teaching soil science and conservation classes\, he is the Director of the WIU Organic Research Program. His research and outreach activities focus on organic grain production systems with an emphasis on weed management\, nutrient management and farming system strategies to enhance soil health. He grew up on a small farm in rural Maryland and has been active in farming systems research and education for over 25 years. \n  \nSmall Grains Meet-Up with Deb Campbell from Agronomy Advantage \nJoin Agronomist Deb Campbell for our monthly meet-up. Deb obtained her BSc (Agr) with a major in Agronomy and an emphasis in soil management from the University of Guelph. She then went on to complete her Certified Crop Adviser certification in 2000. Since then Deb added to that certification by completing the 4R Nutrient Management Specialty and the Resistance Management Specialty.  Deb has a broad range of experience from previously working for Cargill and Syngenta in an array of positions. From Agronomist to Account Manager\, she understands all aspects of growing a successful crop both from the field and business perspective. She has production expertise in corn\, soybeans (including IP)\, cereals\, canola\, edible beans\, alfalfa\, and cover crops. Deb was awarded the Certified Crop Advisor Award of Excellence in 2003. She has served on the Certified Crop Adviser Board of Directors since 2009 and in 2020 served as the Chair of the Board.  Deb is also a director at the local Grey County Soil and Crop and is First Vice for Grey Bruce Farmers Week. DESCRIPTION:Earth Haven Biodynamic Farm is a 200 acre family-owned and operated subsistence farm dedicated to a sustainable lifestyle. They farm using biodynamic\, organic and permaculture practices. Along with their gardens of delicious fruits\, vegetables and herbs\, they raise 100% pasture grass fed and pasture grass fed finished beef. Participants will be sent a pre-recorded video and then join the farmers for a live discussion\, question and answer session. \n  \nThis event is offered as part of the Ignatius Farm New Farmer Training Program. Educational content is geared toward new farmers\, but is open to all farmers who might be curious about a certain topic\, wishing to expand their farming knowledge\, or in need of a refresh. \n  \nAnyone wishing to attend the full Term 3 can register here. SUMMARY:Ecological Outcome Verification at Meeting Place Organic Farm
DESCRIPTION:Please review EFAO’s COVID-19 protocols before registering. Registration is limited to 15. \n  \nIn-person Field day at Meeting Place Organic Farm near Lucknow\, Ontario. Cory Van Groningen\, beef farmer\, abattoir co-owner\, and Savory Hub verifier for the Lake Erie ecoregion\, will give an introduction to Ecological Outcome Verification (EOV) by Savory Institute. Before the farm was handed over to his daughter Katrina\, Tony Mcquail spearheaded regenerative farming at Meeting Place for 30 years. Participants will learn how EOV helps farmers in their decision making\, by providing clear and simple monitoring criteria for land regeneration that are as intuitive as they are helpful. Join and learn about the growing EOV community! \nPreparation materials will be sent out in advance of the event. Please bring your own lunch\, snacks\, and/or refreshments.
